I launched my website just a few months ago, and the process reminded me how much work goes into keeping a site in good shape—not just when you build it, but over time.
These days, having a “responsive” site isn’t optional; it’s essential. A responsive site automatically adjusts to the device it’s viewed on—desktop, phone, or tablet—so it’s easy to read and navigate no matter where someone finds you.
Even with a brand-new build, I still clicked through every page and double-checked every element before going live. It made me think about how easy it is for small issues to creep in as months and years go by, things like broken links, outdated images, or content that no longer reflects your message. A website might look fine at a glance, but the details matter, and it’s worth taking the time to keep everything current.
That’s why now is a great time to take a fresh look at your own site, even if you haven’t thought about it in a while. Here are a few things worth checking:
- Click every link. Make sure they work—and if they send people off your site, set them to open in a new tab so visitors can come back easily.
- Read every page. Does it still sound like you? Is your message clear? Is your contact info easy to find? (You’d be surprised how many sites hide or skip this!)
- Look at your visuals. Are your photos current? Is your logo crisp? Any images with awkward backgrounds that clash with your design?
- Test it on your phone. More than half your visitors will view it there first.
- Check behind the scenes. Outdated plugins or software can slow your site down or cause bigger problems.
Your website is often the first impression someone gets of you and your business. Even a quick refresh can make sure that impression is sharp, current, and exactly what you want it to be.
